Benj leads Ørsted UK overseeing the company’s relationships across government, authorities, regulators and NGOs, delivering our sustainability agenda and securing consents for our Europe portfolio. Benj led the work to deliver the Offshore Wind Sector Deal with the UK Government and served on the government’s Advisory Panel on Highly Protected Marine Areas and the Prime Minister’s Offshore Wind Acceleration Taskforce. He chairs the Offshore Wind Industry Council’s environment and aviation programmes. Benj led the sector’s work for the UN Oceans Panel, forming the Offshore Renewable Energy Action Coalition and publishing its ground-breaking report on unlocking the global potential of ocean renewable energy. He has served on the boards of most of the Ørsted’s joint ventures. Benj was previously Director of Innovation at the Carbon Trust, after two decades in upstream oil and gas. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society, an Honorary Fellow of the Energy Institute and holds an Honorary Doctorate from Durham University. He served on the board of Renewable UK for eight years and is President of the Society for Underwater Technology as well as a board member of the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult and the Global Underwater Hub.
