Envisioning the Future: How Pension Trustees are Addressing Climate Risks and Opportunities

24 Jun 2025
Finance & Investment Stage

The Pension Regulator’s (TPR) latest review of climate-related disclosures shows pension trustees are taking steps to address climate risks and opportunities in pension schemes, life insurance policies, and savings portfolios. Since 2022, schemes with over £1 billion in assets and authorised schemes have been required to publish climate reports. But are these efforts enough?

Our panellists will explore the decision-making behind climate transition plans and the challenges providers face. Notably, only 60% of TPR’s sample reports included a net-zero goal with a target date of 2050 or earlier.

The session will also consider whether trustees should be encouraged—or mandated—to invest in the UK or specific sectors to meet 2030 and 2050 net-zero targets. Could climate disclosures, meant to reflect sound risk management, actually create new risks?
